When Anxiety, OCD, or Relationship Struggles May Be Connected to Trauma
Many people seek therapy because they are struggling with anxiety, relationship difficulties, emotional overwhelm, perfectionism, OCD, or feeling “stuck” in the same painful patterns. Often, they do not initially identify these experiences as trauma-related, especially when it comes to emotional or childhood trauma.
In my work as a trauma and OCD therapist in Burke, Virginia, I frequently help adults who feel exhausted from constantly overthinking, people-pleasing, self-criticism, emotional reactivity, or difficulty feeling secure in relationships. Some clients struggle with intrusive thoughts and compulsions related to OCD, while others notice patterns of anxiety, shame, emotional disconnection, or difficulty trusting themselves and others.
Many people grew up learning to suppress emotions, stay hyper-independent, avoid conflict, or prioritize everyone else’s needs before their own. Over time, these coping strategies can contribute to anxiety, depression, relationship stress, emotional burnout, and difficulty feeling fully connected to oneself.
Therapy can help create greater self-understanding, emotional regulation, and lasting change. My approach is warm, collaborative, trauma-informed, and grounded in evidence-based therapies including EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), ERP (Exposure and Response Prevention), and DBT therapy.
Healing & Integration Therapy offers in-person therapy in Burke, VA and virtual therapy across Virginia for adults seeking support with trauma, OCD, anxiety, and relationship patterns.
